Dr. Bowers currently oversees biologics discovery as Director of the David Geffen School of Medicine Therapeutic Antibody Laboratory and Associate Director for Drug Discovery in the UCLA CTSI. For the Therapeutic Antibody Platform, he helps guide the process of antibody project selection and therapeutic concept design, and oversees management of all therapeutic project teams. Dr. Bowers also guides all aspects of antibody discovery, engineering and lead candidate selection, including supervision of staff, data management and the screening platform. As part of his entrepreneurial leadership role, Dr. Bowers frequently provides training and education within the CTSI on various topics relating to commercialization of medical technologies.

Prior to this position, he was Senior Director and scientific founder of AnaptysBio, a now publicly traded therapeutic antibody product company [IPO Fall 2015, NASDQ; ANAB] and the leader in the use of somatic hypermutation (SHM) for therapeutic antibody discovery and optimization. There, he oversaw discovery of first-in-class clinical stage antibodies including ANB019, an antibody blocking interleukin-36 receptor for the treatment of the rare inflammatory disease generalized pustular psoriasis (GPP).
